The themes of the Wonders of the Peak gallery are Time and Place. These universal themes provide many opportunities to link to the National Curriculum and local curricula.
The gallery design features:
• A timeline of objects, at child height, from 360 million years ago to, almost, the present day
• A time wall telling the story of the Peak District
• Floor-to-ceiling cases exploring Caves, Valleys, Hills and Pastures.
Teachers can use the displays largely, although not exclusively, in the following ways:
• Caves to explore archaeology
• Pastures for an insight to prehistory
• Hills to examine the Roman impact on the area
• Valleys to look at inspiration, creative responses, tourism and industry.
The gallery has been designed with young people and school visits in mind so there are lots of opportunities for conversation, discussion and interaction with the museum’s collection.
